Not only do we know how the Lehigh Valley has evolved over the years, we’ve played a critical role in its development. The firm has witnessed great change over generations and has continued to evolve to meet the region’s needs and contribute to its growth.

1920s

The Pidcock Company was founded by G. Edwin Pidcock in 1924. It started as a small surveying firm dedicated to providing precise land surveys mapping the regional expansion of the Lehigh Valley. At the time, the area was a major industrial hub, home to Bethlehem Steel and various silk mills.

1930s

With the onset of the Great Depression, Edwin took a second job in Washington, D.C. with the Public Works Administration in order to subsidize the Pidcock firm in Allentown. Locally, the firm supported many federally-funded public works projects and infrastructure improvements, as well as participated in development of the Allentown Park system.

1940s

As the region continued to grow, the firm focused its energies on the residential expansion in Bethlehem and Allentown, helping to accommodate wartime defense workers and later the post-war baby boom. Additionally the firm conducted topographic surveys in support of major infrastructure updates, shifting from trolley-focused transportation to modern highway systems, leading to bridgework that extended into the next decade.

1950s

John and Ralph Pidcock joined their father at the firm, expanding its civil engineering and land surveying practices. John’s experience in Manhattan with a suspension bridge firm design allowed the firm to specialize in structural projects, complementing its traditional civil engineering services. This expertise supported the construction of Allentown’s 15th Street Bridge in the mid-1950s among others and the surveying for the Mackinac Straits Bridge in Michigan.

1960s

John Pidcock and members of the firm developed design expertise in airport design and became the principal design firm for not only the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton Airport, but ultimately, for airports in suburban Philadelphia to State College, Pennsylvania. Under John’s leadership, the firm began—and continues to expand—its practice in municipal planning and engineering, including for parks and infrastructure planning, developing oversight, and fiscal consulting in support of municipal budget planning.

1970s

The firm grew with the Valley and in 1970, Pidcock helped transform a corn field into what is today's Lehigh Valley Health Network Cedar Crest Campus, providing a suite of site selection and development services. Additionally, the company became the primary consultant for construction of the Lehigh Valley Velodrome which opened in 1975, internationally acclaimed cycling facilities have served as a model for subsequent Olympic venues.

1980s

John’s son, Scott Pidcock, joined in 1982, helping to guide the company from a focus on municipal engineering, airport, and bridge design to architecture and an emphasis on land development and planning.

1990s

Helping to usher in the region’s growth in residential communities, corporate campuses, recreational facilities, and logistics/distribution hubs, Pidcock provided land planning and development support for the 1M square foot Nestlé USA Regional Distribution Center, which was at the time, the largest project of its type. The firm was also heavily involved with the development of the American Parkway Corporate Campus, which broke ground in 1999.

2000s

Under the firm’s leadership, the firm successfully navigated the Great Recession and was instrumental in many healthcare, real estate, and recreational projects, including Coca-Cola Park, Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network’s reimagined east Allentown campus, Spring Creek Properties, and Hills at Lock Ridge. Large scale warehousing work, including several Liberty Property Trust locations, remained steady.

2010s

Pidcock was engineer of record for the nearly two-mile Freemansburg Avenue corridor project in Northampton County, providing comprehensive traffic engineering services; the project encompassed roadway and intersection upgrades within the public right‑of‑way, serving residential neighborhoods, commercial businesses, and emergency services. Across the Lehigh Valley, the firm’s land planning and civil engineering services were leveraged in support of several key healthcare expansions, as well as commercial and industrial projects.

2020s

The Pidcock family continues its legacy into a fourth generation. Stuart Pidcock joined in 2019, bringing professional architecture and planning experience from Boston and New York, ensuring the firm's continued growth and service quality. The firm’s expertise continues to be deployed with large-scale planning and site engineering initiatives, including residential communities, municipal planning, corporate and logistics facilitation, and a geographically diverse portfolio of healthcare campuses—new and repurposed.
